The Air Cadet League of Canada, British Columbia Provincial Committee Board of Directors recently held it’s 78th Annual General meeting. The Board of Directors are elected as follows:
Mr. Doern’s involvement with the Canadian Air Cadet Movement began in 1972 when he joined the Cadet Instructors Cadre as an officer. He served 37 years in uniform during which time he worked with two different cadet Squadrons (396 “City of Prince George” in Prince George and 204 “Black Maria” in Kamloops, BC). He spent 5 years as Staff Officer Two (Air) at the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Pacific) in Victoria, served 5 years as Commanding Officer of Albert Head Air Cadet Summer Training Centre in Victoria and 4 years as Commanding Officer of the Penhold Air Cadet Summer Training Centre in Penhold Alberta. Mr. Doern served as the Canadian Escort Officer for two International Air Cadets Exchange tours that traveled to Singapore in 2007 and England in 2014.
Mr. Doern retired from the Military in 2010 and immediately joined the British Columbia Provincial Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada. In 2011 Mr. Doern was elected as a Governor with the National Air Cadet League of Canada and moved into a Vice Presidency position in 2012. In 2015 Mr. Doern was elected as the National President. Following completion of his term as President, Mr. Doern became a member of the Advisory Council of the National Air Cadet League of Canada.
In 2017, Mr. Doern reunited with the British Columbia Provincial Committee and was elected as a Director, serving in the capacity of Squadron Liaison. In March of 2019 he was elected as BCPC President, the position he still occupies.
Mr. Doern has been awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and also the Cadet Instructor Cadre Lifetime Achievement Award for his service to the Canadian Cadet Movement.
Mr. Doern presently resides in Kamloops, BC with his wife Penny who is also heavily involved in the Air Cadet League. They have two grown children, both graduates of the Air Cadet program.
